The Democratic Convention 2024 was nothing less than electrifying. There were many comparisons made from speakers talking about Democratic vs. Republican claims throughout the years. One of the highlights were about jobs and the economy.

The one statement made as a speaker in the Convention by prior President Bill Clinton claims that out of the last 50 million jobs created, only 1 million were created by Republicans, and the rest were made under Democratic presidents and/or Democratically controlled Congress. PolitiFact, which is a fact checking website, checked the claim and found it to be TRUE.

Another reason may be that Democratic presidents overseen economic recoveries more than Republicans. People gain more jobs under Democratic Presidents as the economy starts to stabilize and grow.  It seems that time after time, when a Democratic president takes over from a Republican, his first job is to clean up the mess created by the Republican president and/or a Republican controlled Congress.

But Republicans that claim that Democrats are fiscally irresponsible. That doesn’t add up. The debt to GDP radio under President Reagan was 30% when he became president, but then by the time he left, it went up to 50%. Why would he do such a thing? Some say that the main reason was that Reagan was trying to make it difficult for future Democratic administrations would find it difficult to support or fund programs for the poor and middle class or average working people.

George H.W. Bush, who succeeded Reagan, raised the ratio from 50% to 62%. So, between the two of these Presidents, they more than doubled the debt to GDP radio. Not good. Increasing the debt is ok only if the economy grows. If the economy grows more than the national debt, then that would offset the debt.

So then, the next President, Bill Clinton, was left to clean up the mess. He was able to not only balance the budget, but he left a surplus, and he got the debt to GDP radio down to just 54%. Bill Clinton was the last President in office when there was NO NATIONAL DEBT.

But that didn’t last long, because the next president was Republican George W. Bush, and he went back to the Reagan playbook. The National debt ever since has gone up for the most part, but Democratic presidents each had to take a stab at it to figure out how to reduce the national debt. So what did George W. Bush actually do? Simply put, he got massive tax cuts made for the rich, like that of Trump. The average tax cut for the rich was $570,000 each during the 2 terms that Bush served. Then he launched was in Iraq and Afghanistan that were very expensive. George W. Bush added at least $5 Trillion dollars to the national debt.

So then it was Barack Obama’s turn to take over the mess. He took over a debt to GDP ratio that started for Bush at 50 % but then Obama had to start his first term with it at 73%. Then in addition to that, the banks were failing, and millions of people last their homes. The car industries were going belly-up. Obama had to bail out Wall Street along with stimulating the economy to get us out of the deepest recession since the great depression. So, the GDP shrank while the debt increased. So, the debt to GDP radio jumped from 73% to 100% by the end of Obama’s first term, but he had to have the country go deeper in debt in order to begin pulling the country out of the recession. The ratio had stabilized by the end of Obama’s second term, but he had to turn over the presidency to Donald Trump. So, take one guess what Trump does to affect the debt. He got a giant tax cut for large corporations and the wealthy. He increased the debt to GDP radio from 103% when he became president to over 105%.

So what do the Republicans want to do to reduce the National debt. Well, first, they want to cut Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare because they say that the country cannot afford these programs. The bottom line is if the Republicans hadn’t been so irresponsible for raising the debt under their watch, then there should be no reason to cut these programs from the middle class.

The Republicans complain about the National dept when a Democratic president is in office, but when one of their own is president, they really could not care less of the National debt.

President Joe Biden, a Democratic president now had to clean up the mess that Donald Trump created. Because of Covid and other issues inherited from Donald Trump, Joe Biden didn’t have much success lowering the National debt, but the fact is that Trump borrowed over twice the money that Biden had to borrow in comparison to their first terms.

So now look at today and into the future. Vice-President Kamala Harris. No rest for the team, as the tour, now in the South, continues through Savanna, Georgia. This is the first time that the Democrats decided to penetrate the deep red South since Bill Clinton traveled there back in 1992. But Kamala Harris is for all people. She will continue to explain her upcoming policies, including giving women’s rights back regarding reproductive freedom. Georgia is one of those states that abortions have been banned, thanks to Donald J. Trump, who had his three nominated and confirmed Supreme Court justices take away the freedoms of women since Roe vs. Wade over 50 years ago.

While in Georgia traveling in rural communities to talk to all people, she will explain that Trump is not in it for them, but he is in the election for himself, and to enrich himself and his rich billionaire friends while at the same time making it harder for the middle class, including Atlanta residents. She’s telling everyone that she wants to even the field, and give tax breaks to the middle class, and make sure that the more affluent billionaires pay their fair share. She wants to restore women’s reproductive freedoms. Everything that Donald Trump wants to do inevitably increase the National Budget, because he doesn’t care about the middle class. His Project 2025 document that outlines his upcoming presidency is amble proof of his desire to become an autocrat, take complete control of the law, in other words, make his law the law of the land, get rid of the Constitution and democracy as we know it will end.

But the people of Georgia are smarter than that. They voted for Biden in the last election, and they will vote for Kamala Harris in this election. With the advice she has gained firsthand as Biden’s Vice-President, she knows what it will take to get things turned around in the right direction as far as the GDP and the budget, and Donald J. Trump will no longer be able to influence policymakers in Washington.

There still may be room for the Republican Party in the future. If they get back on-track on their Ronald Reagan styled principles, Democracy will continue and thrive. All this is pending that Kamala Harris is elected the next President of the United States. There will be no interference from government, and the United States will continue to be free and the best country in the world to live in.
