The Net Worth of Kamala Harris and the future effect on her wealth as (POTUS)

Presently, Kamala Harris has a net worth of $8 million. But that includes the wealth of her husband, Doug Emhoff. In her present position as Vice-President, she presently  earns a yearly salary of $235,000. But if elected President, that surely will go up.

The President of the United States is paid $400,000 each year.  So, it goes without saying that she will experience a large salary bump. She gets free housing, food, travel and security for starters. But she also will be entitled $50,000 for expenses, $19,000 for entertainment, and another cool $100,000 in a non-taxable travel account.  She will get to drive around in what is considered the most secure car in the world, named ‘the beast’. But becoming President comes with a price if you like to drive, because from that point on in your life, you lose the privilege to drive. You will be chauffeured everywhere. Even after you leave the White House, you will not regain driving privileges. You will retain your Secret Service everywhere you go. Your travel plans will be scrutinized by your security.

As a San Francisco DA, she received $140,000 but by the time she left, she was making $200,000.  When she became the California AG, her salary was a mere $159,000.  But she also received two pensions for her time in state and local offices, bringing her net worth to around $1,000,000.

As a US Senator in 2016, her starting salary was $174,000. At that time, she had somewhere near a half a million dollars in a savings account. She held a similar amount in investments in retirement accounts and she also had her pensions.

She gets a California state pension when she turns 60 at the end of 2024. Furthermore, she will receive approximately $8,200 per month. Her federal pension begins in 2026 if she is no longer the Vice-President in 2025.

Figures only go up, i.e. Joe Biden will be earing a pension of $413,000 annually which is more than his salary as President, but that is also because he’s been in public office for over 40 years.

Kamala’s marriage to Doug Emhoff contributes to her net worth. They own a multimillion-dollar home in Los Angeles which also contributes to their net worth. Doug transferred the property to a trust in 2012 following becoming the spouse of Kamila. Now the trust bears both of their signatures. The property is estimated to be worth 4.4 million dollars, but with a 2-million-dollar mortgage which was taken out four years ago in 2020. Until 2030, they only have to pay the interest and their mortgage is locked into a very low rate until 2027.

She originally bought her first property in 1998 when she joined the San Francisco district attorney’s office. She had an apartment in the city’s SoMa (South of Market) neighborhood and the cost for that was $299,000. When she because the Vice president and now planned to live at Number One Observatory Circle, the official home of the US Vice-President, she sold the apartment for $860,000. She sold a condo in Oakland where her mother lived until 2009. She sold the condo with her sister for $710,000.
